The golf swing is usually initiated by the lower body on the down swing. The turn of the hips initiates the down swing and the rest of the upper body follows from the bottom going up. Picture your body like a twisted rubber- band recoiling back to its natural form. There is a video by David Leadbetter ,"David Leadbetter Interactive" that might be able to help you. It has a part where he talks about swinging a baseball bat similar to a golf club. Good Luck!
