Why do people turn into disgusting savages on black friday?

we went to best buy at two in the morning and there was a line that turned two corners, rounding to the backside of the building. as we drove past, the people in line faced their bodies toward us and glared at us with evil looks as we ped by. no i am not exaggerating. i have heard people die in these things. actual people getting actually TRAMPLED by other human beings who are too crazed by the gadgets to notice they are stepping on a human being. if you are in best buy on black friday, you can look around and you can see the maniacal faces. they have almost lost all sense and humanity in their frenzy to get the best gadget at the lowest price. i know it sounds a little ridiculous but maybe if you have been to one of these things at best buy (other places like staples are different, as they are less popular and don't attract the same sort of people) you will understand. my question is, why has America become such a consumerism obsessed society that people camp out at 10 o'clock the night before to get a single piece of electronic crap and glare at people driving by and are so crazy as to occasionally crush another human being in their mad rush towards the laptop or whatever? what the hell is wrong with us?
